HAVING A SHUFTY AT DEL BOY NOT CUSHTY
Telly show legends steer clear
STARS of the Only Fools And Horses musical have urged TV’s Del Boy and Rodney to stay away from the show – for now.
The West End version opened to rave reviews at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket on Tuesday night.
Former stars of the show including John Challis (Boycie) and Patrick Murray (Mickey Pearce) put in an appearance at the premiere.
But the original
Del and Rodney – Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst – were nowhere to be seen. And the musical’s stars said that suits them fine. However Tom Bennett (Del) and Ryan Hutton (Rodders) are hoping to see the pair at the show in the near future.
Tom said: “It would mean an incredible amount for Ryan and I to see them on the front row, but maybe in a few weeks.
“It would be a bit much to look down and see the real Del Boy now as we’re just getting going.”
Paul Whitehouse, who plays Grandad and co-wrote the show with series’ late creator John Sullivan’s son Jim, said he hoped the original Trotter brothers would attend a performance.
And he believed Sir David would find it cushty.
Paul, 60, said: “They might just sit at the back and heckle us the whole time. But I’m sure they will be down.
“Sir David said they didn’t come to the premiere as they didn’t want to overshadow the performance. That was very gracious of them.”
