COSTA HOLS GIRL, 9, KILLED BY ICE CREAM
Milk allergy triggers heart attack
A BRITISH schoolgirl has died after eating ice cream just hours after arriving on the Costa del Sol for a family holiday.
The nine-year-old, who is said to have had a severe allergy to milk and nuts, went into anaphylactic shock.
She was taken to hospital in Malaga but died two days later.
Last night it emerged that her parents had checked into their hotel just hours before heading to a shopping centre where the girl is believed to have eaten the treat. A spokesman for the Costa del Sol Hospital near Marbella, where the girl was first treated, said: “She was revived and transferred around midnight the same day.”
And a spokesman for the hospital in Malaga added: “A nine-year-old foreign girl died at this hospital on Monday afternoon.
“She had been transferred here on Sunday.”
A source said the youngster suffered a heart attack after she was taken to A&E. The family was staying at an upmarket resort called Club La Costa World in Mijas, which is run by CLC World Resorts & Hotels.
A spokesman said: “CLC World Resorts & Hotels would like to offer its heartfelt condolences to the family following the loss of their daughter.
“Having eaten ice cream at a local commercial centre, the girl suffered a severe allergic reaction.
“Despite the best efforts of doctors, CLC World staff and the emergency services, the young girl was placed on life support but subsequently died.”
