CAIN warns Matty that the tractor’s playing up in tonight’s EMMERDALE (7pm & 8pm, ITV). Yes, I know, sounds like pretty dramatic stuff, eh?

But actually it is, or soon will be. When a hungover Pete finally staggers into work, Matty makes a lousy job of passing this message on. So Pete unwittingly clambers into the drivers’ seat and starts the vehicle up, thinking nothing’s amiss.

Nothing, that is, such as the brakes not working…

Meanwhile, unbeknown to him, his girlfriend Rhona has agreed to cover Vanessa’s shift and is over in the barn, preparing to check on the Bartons’ heifers.

You can see where this one’s going, right?

Rhona gives Pete a ring, Pete gets distracted by his mobile ringing in his pocket – and the next thing we know, oh blimey, the tractor is careering out of control. Seconds later it ploughs into the side of the barn, leaving Rhona sprawled unconscious on the ground, bleeding heavily.

And what’s bleeding worse is that Pete or Matty haven’t a clue at this stage that she’s in there… ELSEWHERE tonight, living history series BACK IN TIME FOR SCHOOL (8pm,

BBC2) has reached the 90s, which means the kids get to learn about New Labour, Britpop and Byker Grove, and recreate the

1990 World Cup semi-final in their drama lesson. They’re also treated to a visit from Jet, one of the stars from ITV’s hit Saturday night show Gladiators. She’s taking them for PE.

All that, plus they play around on computers that now seem prehistoric, using an old dial-up internet connection. “It’s so cute,” says one.
