MY daughter is the light of my life.

She’s currently pregnant with her first baby and I should be over the moon. However, I’m still reeling from some news she gave me before Christmas.

We were talking about her due date, when she dropped in that she was always worried about getting pregnant after her teenage abortions.

I was drinking a cup of tea at the time and choked.

She then proceeded to tell me that she had two abortions; one at 16 and one at 20 – and that my own sister had helped and supported her. I had absolutely no idea.

Why didn’t she talk to me? Now things are very awkward between us. Can our relationship recover? JANE SAYS: I suspect it took a huge amount of courage for your daughter to finally tell you the truth.

She may have seemed “casual” during your chat, but I bet she was shaking inside.

At least you now know the whole truth.

She didn’t have to tell you anything.

The last thing she needs right now is your disapproval. She’s an expectant mother who needs all the support in the world.

Stop making this all about you. I suspect she went to your sister as she was scared of disappointing you.

Promise her that you will be more approachable in future.

As for her, it’s important that she gets her contraception sorted out after this pregnancy too.
