I’M BATHING in a tub of beer while helping myself to pints of the stuff from a barrel.

Apparently, this all-over alcoholic free-for-all is a health treatment in Iceland!

This is Bjorbodin, the country’s unique beer spa. It’s part of Bruggsmidj­an Kaldi, Iceland’s first microbrewe­r in the village of Árskógssan­dur in the north of the island.

Such is its appeal, the captain of Iceland’s football team, Cardiff player Aron Gunnarsson, owns a stake in it.

This spa experience with a difference begins by enjoying samples of the super brew.

Once suitably refreshed, each visitor is then allocated their own tub filled with beer, water, hops and yeast.

Packed with vitamin B, the yeast is supposed to be great for cleansing your skin, and you’re encouraged not to shower for a few hours afterwards.

We’d arrived in Akureyri after a twoand-a-half-hour flight from Liverpool.

Driving past snow-topped mountains, lava formations and lakes, the country’s natural beauty, as well as sub-zero temperatur­es, takes your breath away... so a hot beer bath is the perfect way to rejuvenate!
