Boss Has double vision

- By ALEX CROOK

RALPH HASENHUTTL believes Southampton can shock Arsenal for the second time this season.

Hasenhuttl (right) picked up his first win as Saints boss against Unai Emery’s Gunners in December.

The Austrian, whose team also held Chelsea to a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge, said: “Every game is difficult but I think in the first game we showed we can bring this surprising result.

“We’re not frightened of anyone and confidence is high at the moment. We have shown we can take points against big teams.

“We showed against Arsenal and Chelsea we can compete with them. Games like this should bring out the best in us.

“It will be a good mixture between defensive balance and a good transition forward to create problems for Arsenal like we did in the first game.

“We showed in that game that when we are well-organised it’s not easy to score against us.

“But these teams don’t need many chances because they have so much quality.”

Hasenhuttl has also warned his players they need to stop throwing away points late in games if they are to avoid relegation.

Cardiff’s last-gasp winner at St Mary’s a fortnight ago was the sixth time Saints have conceded in or after the 90th minute.

Hasenhuttl said: “Small mistakes can make a huge difference between winning points or not. That was the key message in the last two weeks.

“In some parts of games it’s not about shape or tactics but about keeping clean sheets, defending like a team in the last five minutes and being smart.

“We don’t take risks anymore. We’ve tried to create this scenario in training.”
