MEE’S WILD ABOUT HARRY

- By DAVID ANDERSON

BURNLEY defender Ben Mee has backed Harry Kane to become a record breaker.

Mee will face Kane if he returns from injury against Burnley at Turf Moor today – and he is a big admirer of the Tottenham and England striker.

Kane, 25, already has 122 Premier League goals and 20 for England.

And Mee claims he could eclipse Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney in both of those charts.

“He’s still got a lot of football to play,” said the Clarets centre-half.

“Harry can go right to the top. He can smash records and do all that. He’s yet to get into his prime.

“He’s a top-quality player and it’s fantastic he’s up for playing for his country as much as his club.”

Mee has old-school values and feels Kane is a throwback to Shearer.

“He is quality, his finishing is fantastic, he shoots from wherever, he’s got power and cleverness as well,” he said.

“Harry’s a little bit like Shearer in his cleverness. I think he’s got a very good footballing brain.

“He seems quite down to earth and hard-working and honest in the way he plays.”

Mee will relish facing Kane if he does figure and says Burnley believe they can extend their seven-game unbeaten run against Spurs.

Their 5-1 home drubbing by Everton has proved to be a turning point, with Sean Dyche replacing Joe Hart with Tom Heaton in goal, although Mee insists they are not safe yet.

“We had a bit of reflection and it’s been a good few weeks for us since the turn of the year,” he said.

“There’s a bit of relief and the confidence comes. You get momentum. We have that mentality of going out and pulling in the same direction.

“We thought seven games unbeaten would have got us well out of it and left a few others in it, but we’re right in it still. There’s still work to do.”
