LAST CHANCE FOR EUBANK

- Interview by CHRIS McKENNA

JAMES DeGALE will come out on top against Chris Eubank Jnr – if the former IBF supermiddleweight champion can rediscover his best form.

But if Eubank Jnr can pull off an upset, then it might open the door to a long-awaited rematch between him and Billy Joe Saunders.

The latter is moving up to super-middleweight to challenge for the WBO title on April 13 at Wembley Arena.

And we would be happy to make that fight down the line if both men win their next fights.

But if DeGale is near his best, then he should have too much for the Brighton-born boxer when they meet at the O2 tonight.

Eubank Jnr will be fit as usual but I doubt he has the boxing brains to match the 2008 Olympic gold medallist.

At least this time he has brought in a proper coach and got himself some sort of structure in his training camp.

That might see him improve from his defeats by Saunders and George Groves. But as long as DeGale doesn’t fade in the fight and give up the middle rounds easily he should have too much.

The Londoner does have a habit of losing concentration and letting rounds slip away. He won’t want to do that against Eubank Jnr.

There is also the fear about DeGale’s recent performances, especially when he lost his IBF title against Caleb Truax in 2017.

That was on my show and he looked so flat that night like something major was missing.

If he has rediscovered that spark he is a superior boxer and far better technically than his rival tonight.

That is why I would pick DeGale to come out on top and end Eubank Jnr’s hopes of ever getting another big fight.

DeGale’s career is also on the line but a win could give him a chance of a final flurry as he heads into his last couple of years in the sport.
