CITY AIM TO BE THE BEST OF ALL TIME

- By MATTHEW DUNN

KEVIN DE BRUYNE claims winning the quadruple would make Manchester City the greatest side of all time.

But he insisted he would only start thinking about the historic feat when City are in the Champions League Final, having already added the Premier League title and FA Cup to the Carabao Cup.

City won the first of the four trophies they are in contention for this season as they beat Chelsea on penalties in the League Cup on Sunday.

With Liverpool missing the chance to move three points clear at the top of the Premier League after drawing at Manchester United on Sunday, the odds on City completing an unprecedented clean sweep have shortened.

But asked if City could do it, Belgium midfielder De Bruyne said it would be “almost impossible”.

“We are going to try to win as many games as possible, obviously, to do it and if you do that you must be considered the best team ever because nobody has done it,” said De Bruyne (below).

“However, we are not looking at that. We want to win as much as possible. We are not thinking about the quadruple.

“If we win three and then play the Champions League Final, maybe we can talk about it, but before that? No way.”

City were surprisingly dumped out of the FA Cup by Wigan last season, a week before winning the Carabao Cup.

And their semi-final Champions

League defeat to Liverpool left them with only the league title to add to the

Etihad trophy cabinet. This season City face a trip to Swansea to secure a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

But with Liverpool and Tottenham fighting hard in the Premier League, there is a long way to go to the Champions League Final in Madrid on June 1.

City face West Ham at the Etihad tomorrow night desperate to keep up the pressure on leaders Liverpool, who are one point ahead of them.

But De Bruyne added: “The Liverpool result doesn’t matter. We are going to have a tough week.

“We have just played a hard game and Wednesday is another one, then Saturday also. The schedule is pretty hard for us. We just need to keep going.”

It was a message echoed by City striker Sergio Aguero, who said: “We are here to fight for all the competitions.

“Obviously the Champions League isn’t easy but we are going to try to at least go as far as possible.”

City will be without Aymeric Laporte and Fernandinho against the Hammers after the pair picked up injuries in the punishing two-hour long contest with Chelsea at Wembley. POLICE in Germany have arrested a 30-year-old man from Gelsenkirchen over the alleged assault of a City fan after the Champions League game against Schalke.

The City supporter remains in a medicallyinduced coma after suffering brain injuries.
