TV star David Hasselhoff says he is getting ready to hit the big screen – in a film version of his 1980s show Knight Rider.

The Hoff, 66, is returning as Michael Knight in his talking car, KITT.

Playing a hi-tech crime fighter, the series made him a household name around the world.

Now after a decade of trying to create a film project, he is back – 33 years on from the last series.

He said: “I cannot talk about it, but if I was a betting man, I would bet maybe in about a year you could take some popcorn to a movie theatre and see the new Knight Rider with David Hasselhoff.”

The US star, who also enjoyed a singing career, has revealed he came close to playing Superman.

The Hoff was one of the top choices to play the superhero in the 1978 movie, the part eventually going to Christopher Reeve.

“I turned it down but it was the right move, because I ended up doing Knight Rider,” he said.

“It was the same with Raiders Of The Lost Ark, I was down to the wire.

“Joyce Selznick, an incredible casting agent, said if you do Superman, you’ll be Superman for the rest of your life.”

He insisted he had “no regrets” and joked: “It was the 80s. We drank every day. Come on, it was a big party. But no, I just moved on.”
