Boss slashes Scots jobs in ‘C. U. Jimmy’ hat & wig
A BOSS posted a snap of himself in a “C. U. Jimmy” hat and wig while clutching a bottle of Irn Bru – then announced hundreds of job cuts at his company in Scotland.
Antonio Shabbir shared the photo of himself wearing a Tam o’Shanter with fake red hair a day before breaking the news in Glasgow.
The Vodafone customer operations chief was due to address the firm’s workforce yesterday to tell them 360 jobs are moving to Manchester.
He posted a pic of himself grinning, captioned: “Getting ready for this month’s
‘Audience with Antonio’… some exciting news to share.”
The post was shared on the mobile phone firm’s internal system for employees.
It is understood he was promoting a staff contest to win a trip to
Edinburgh but one worker who has now quit his job said the timing of Mr Shabbir’s post was “distasteful”.
Another said: “Everyone is so nervous. There’s a real anxiety about the place. Livelihoods are at stake.
“Some will have to wait until July to find out if they have a job.”
And one said: “A bit distasteful when our office in
Scotland is being moved down south and we find out who’s going first tomorrow.”
A colleague added: “Here we are waiting to hear news of our pending redundancies and this pops up.”
Shadow Scotland office minister Paul Sweeney called the post “insensitive at best and utterly callous at worst”.
A Vodafone spokesman said: “We apologise unreservedly.” He added that Mr Shabbir had “no intention of offending anyone”.
