THE number of parents being attacked by their children is rocketing.

Police recorded 23,000 cases of parental abuse in London in the past three years.

Cases have risen from 7,290 in 2016 to 7,716 in 2017 and 8,033 in 2018.

The biggest spike has come from violent daughters – up 17% to 5,275 cases since 2015.

Daughters are now to blame for 23% of parental abuse.

Sons are responsible for 69% of attacks, with grandchildren blamed for 4% and stepchildren make up the rest.

Scotland Yard fears the problem will spiral as pensioners live longer and suffer major health problems, including dementia.

Susan Hall, who is a Conservative member of London’s Police and Crime Committee, said: “Too many Londoners feel they can turn to violence in Sadiq Khan’s lawless London – even when their own parents are the target of these heinous crimes.” The spike has led the Met Police to list parental abuse high on its agenda and an “emerging demand”.

In a hard-hitting report, it said: “Domestic abuse where the victim is a parent of the suspect has increased by 66% between 2012 and 2015. “We have engaged with Oxford and Manchester universities to improve our understanding of this particular demand.”

A Home Office report revealed many parents are too embarrassed to report their children.
