Kal gets the table covered

-

NORWICH have the fight for Premier League promotion – and that’s official.

The Canaries have been more renowned for their exciting attacking play than their ability to win ugly. But things changed as they outbattled a spirited Millwall.

And it was keen boxer Ben Godfrey who summed up their attitude.

The defender, 21, needed stitches after this bruising encounter but believes his league leaders have proved a point.

Warrior Godfrey enjoys a bit of sparring in his spare time and his Norwich side can see the KO blow on their rivals in sight.

He said: “You expected to be bandaged and bruised when you come to a place like this.”

And he added: “The Championship isn’t always pretty. You have to earn the right to play and be brave.

“Did this prove a point to ourselves? Yeah. You have to stand up to these tasks and enjoy doing it.”

Marco Stiepermann gave Norwich the lead after being set up by Onel Hernandez on 16 minutes but Shaun Williams levelled from a corner on the stroke of half-time.

It could have gone either way but up popped Christoph Zimmermann 21 minutes from the end with a bullet header from Emi Buendia’s corner. Then Buendia set up Teemu Pukki for the clincher 10 minutes later.

Millwall are just one point above the drop zone and boss Neil Harris insists next week’s trip to Bolton is more important than the FA Cup quarterfinal with Brighton.

He said: “Bolton is far bigger. We’re not going to win the FA Cup. The quarter-final will be a great day out. But if I think if any of my players are thinking about that I will not let them in the building.”
