Celebrations for Meade in the snow

-

FOLLOWING the recent heat wave, winter returned with a vengeance at Leopardstown yesterday when the course was hit by snow but Noel Meade was not disappointed.

The former champion trainer celebrated a treble with The Red Menace, Aint Dunne Yet and Sixshooter.

After Sixshooter completed the hat-trick in the Flat race, under amateur Mark O’Hare, Meade said: “He’d never been on grass before and we know he goes on snow now!

“I’d say he’s quite a decent horse. He’ll run again in a four-year-old race later in the year and could go for the race in Limerick.

“It’s been a great weekend - four runners and four winners.”

Meade was also successful on Saturday with Battle Of Midway at Navan.

After partnering Ferrobin to victory at Huntingdon yesterday, Bridget Andrews confirmed that she will attempt to repeat her victory on Mohaayed in the County Hurdle at next week’s Cheltenham Festival.

Andrews partnered her first Festival winner on the Dan Skelton-trained gelding when causing a

BY CHRIS GOULDING 33-1 shock in the valuable handicap hurdle after staying on too strongly up the final climb.

The first jockey to congratulate her after crossing the winning line was her boyfriend Harry Skelton who had ridden his brother’s better fancied Spiritofthegames into fifth place.

Mohaayed confirmed his well being when winning an even more valuable prize then the County, in the Betfair Exchange Trophy at Ascot in December – on this occasion in the hands of Harry.

But the capable Andrews will be in the saddle at Cheltenham.

“Mohaayed deserves his chance and is flying at home,” she said. “The plan is for me to ride and I can’t wait to be honest.”

Rebecca Curtis is hoping lightning strikes twice with the two horses she is sending to the Cheltenham Festival.

Lisnagar Oscar is a strong contender for the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle, which she took with At Fishers Cross in 2013, while Drovers Lane could head for the RSA Chase, won by the stable’s O’Faolains Boy in 2014.
