A STUDENT called Tuna Kunt sparked giggles after she stood for election.

Tuna, originally from Turkey, is aiming to land the post of student union leader.

Ms Kunt, who is already the president of her university law society, is promising to work towards “equality and inclusion”.

She wrote: “I’m running to represent you in your Student Union!”

Ms Kunt has also set up a Facebook group called “Tuna Kunt for President” and pledges to improve student spaces, with more lockers and common rooms.

She has previously revealed she was “used to jokes” about her awkward surname. The hopeful wrote: “Follow me while I try to maintain my cool/ elegance/humour while replying to tuna kunt jokes.

“Thank you for laughing at me – it’s been an amazing ice breaker and conversation starter!

“I’m now going to make a tuna pasta and relax until the results party!”

It led to a string of online jokes. One wrote: “I’m guessing her name will get her noticed – all hail Tuna Kunt!”

The ballot at City University in London runs from March 8 to 14.

Ms Kunt is currently the vice-president of education at the students’ union and wants to go a step further.

And this week she wrote: “Good morning everyone! Here to spam you on a Monday morning with my manifesto!”
