Dick: Knife crime is all fault

CRESSIDA BLASTS RICH COKE USE

MIDDLE class druggies have “blood on their hands” and are fuelling the bloody knife crime epidemic, according to the country’s most senior police officer.

Cressida Dick hit out at casual illegal drug users who do not seem to realise they are the reason behind soaring numbers of knife murders.

The Met Commissioner said too many people are buying drugs such as cocaine and cannabis, which is fuelling the county lines market being controlled by violent organised gangs.

When asked if middle class drug users have blood on their hands, she said: “I think anybody who is seeking ‘recreational’ drugs, particularly

Class A drugs, I think that is a good way to put it.”

The Commissioner also clashed with Theresa May over the cause of the crime surge.

The Prime Minister said there is no link between plummeting numbers of police officers and the spike in knife attacks.

But Ms Dick said a link between violence and numbers was obvious. Mrs May has now ordered an urgent set of ministerial meetings to address action against knife crime, amid the controversy that followed her claim there was no direct connection with police cuts.

THE chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales, John Apter, claimed that the majority of those caught with knives are spared prison. He told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “Despite the rhetoric you hear from politicians… two-thirds of those who are convicted don’t face prison.”
