MY boyfriend of six months is fantastic when we’re together, but as soon as he’s out of my sight he slags me off.

When we’re on our own he’s considerate, kind, loving and funny. My best friend works behind the bar at his local and she’s warned me about what he’s saying.

He says I’m a mess and a disaster and all his mates have cruel nicknames for me.

She says he’s totally disloyal and that I should dump him.

But I love him, although I know he’s not 100% perfect.

When I ask him about the rumours I’ve heard he says it’s harmless banter.

He got angry the other night because I asked him to stop. He said I shouldn’t try to control him, but it’s breaking my heart. JANE SAYS: I’m afraid this guy is a lost cause.

It’s almost like he’s two people – loving at home with you and nasty behind your back.

Doesn’t he realise that being two-faced is not a good look? If he cared about you he wouldn’t dream of being so immature and disloyal.

And if he really cared, he’d be the first person to stick up for you.

It sounds like he’s insecure and insults are his protection.

If you split up he can then say to his mates: “See, I told you what she was like.”

The longer you stay with him the more your self-confidence is going to drain away.

Accept that you’re never going to change him. Dump him and move on.

You can do far better than this, believe me.
