Tech to halt log-in borrowing
NETFLIX could soon start clamping down on users who share their accounts.
The streaming service, which has released a Madeleine McCann documentary, could use new technology to stop TV junkies from using the same login.
Many Brits borrow account details from friends or family to dodge paying for awardwinning, exclusive shows such as The Crown and the film Roma.
But tech firm Synamedia could bring all that to an end with a new artificial intelligence system which can spot where shared passwords are being used.
The service is able to decide how to deal with the offender by either making them upgrade to a premium service or shutting down the account.
Synamedia first revealed the technology in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Chief product officer Jean Marc Recine said: “Casual credentials sharing is becoming too expensive to ignore.
“Our new solution gives operators the ability to take action.
“Many casual users will be happy to pay an additional fee for a premium shared service. It’s a great way to keep honest people honest while benefiting from an incremental revenue stream.”
Synamedia is trialling the system and will soon offer it to streaming services such as Netflix.
