THE Real Housewives Of Cheshire star Dawn Ward reckons she’s now more famous than footballer husband Ashley.
And the couple’s youngest daughters didn’t even realise their dad used to be a football star because they are used to Dawn being the one asked for selfies.
Businesswoman Dawn – mum to Darby, 23, Taylor, 21, Charlie, 12, and Aston, nine – has made millions in property development and interior design and returns to our screens next week in the new series of RHOC.
While throughout an 18-year career, Ashley played for clubs including Norwich City, Derby County and Bradford City.
Dawn, 45, says: “I’m the more wellknown one now. It doesn’t feel like he’s ever been a footballer.
“I’ve got two children who never watched their dad play.
“Last year Crewe Alexandra asked Ashley if he’d play in a testimonial so I asked Charlie if she wanted to go and watch daddy play football.
“She said that she didn’t think he was that good – that he played for the council or something.
“She’d never been to football to see him because she was too young. retire because he kept getting injured. About a year afterwards, Joe Royle from Ipswich came in to buy him and I was like: ‘Get back in the office – you’re not going back to football’.”
The last series of RHOC proved tough for Dawn thanks to events at home including her father-in-law Terry being diagnosed with a brain tumour and his wife Maureen suffering from Alzheimer’s.
They now mostly live with Dawn and Ashley at their luxurious Warford Hall home. Dawn says: “I had a lot of personal stuff going on in the last series – it was very stressful. I did a lot of crying you didn’t even see. I wasn’t in a good place. “But Ashley and I went away to Thailand – the first holiday we’ve had in five years without children or friends – and I came back a completely different person.
