FOOTBALL legend Paul Scholes’ son “beat up” a former school pal after England played in the World Cup.

Yesterday Arron, 19, was convicted of the “unprovoked” assault following the Three Lions’ victory against Tunisia.

PAUL Scholes’ son “beat up” a former school pal after England played in a World Cup tie, a court heard.

Arron, 19, left Robert Kemper with bloodshot eyes and bruises in the “unprovoked” attack after watching the Three Lions’ 2-1 victory over Tunisia in a pub on June 18 last year.

The teenage son of former England and Manchester United footballer Paul Scholes was found guilty of common assault last night.

The teenager was seen “jumping up and down and laughing hysterically’ before taking a picture of the victim’s injuries on his mobile phone at the Granby Arms in Uppermill, near Oldham.

Scholes junior, a sports marketing and management student at Manchester Metropolitan University, told police he had “smacked” his victim two or three times because he felt intimidated. The teenager – a striker with nonleague side Royton Town – denied assault by beating, claiming he was acting in self-defence, but was convicted after a trial.

At Tameside Magistrates’ Court Arron Scholes looked crestfallen as his father, 44, and mother Claire watched from the public gallery. He will be sentenced next Friday once a report has been prepared to see if he is suitable for community work.

Judge Samuel Goozee said: “You approached Robert Kemper and there’s no evidence of any threatening behaviour.

“You struck out with force and punched Robert Kemper once in the vestibule, pushed him out on to a table and punched him again.

“Your actions went beyond the realm of self-defence.” Mr Kemper told the court he tried to talk to his former schoolfriend before the attack. He said: “I noticed Arron was on the other side of the pub and I went round to say ‘hello’.

“I got very little response, thought nothing of it, walked away and went back to my friends.

“I knew Arron from school. We had fallen out but had made up in regards to that.

“My eyes were swollen and there was congealed blood in my nose and ears.” Paul Scholes last week left his first management job at Oldham Athletic just 31 days into the role. DAILY STAR, Tuesday, March 19, 2019
