LESS? (BBC1, 8pm) Parents-oftwo Richard, an engineer, and Catherine – a finance analyst who seems unable to manage her personal finances – are one of the biggest-spending families ever featured in the show.
They’re impulse buyers who have two washing machines, four ovens, a large collection of hoovers and piles of largely unworn clothing (Catherine’s) worth £30,000. Alex and Steph
give them a stern talking-to and try to wean them off their credit cards. I suspect a trip to the boot fair is in the offing…

MASTERS (BBC2, 8pm) sees presenter Fearne Cotton marshal ten aspiring designers in a competition to make over business spaces, from restaurants to shops. Tonight’s first task is for each to design and furnishing one room in a show home, but the challenge is that it’s all got to hang together, so some wannabe designers will have to compromise on their individual style. Will it be throw pillows at dawn?
Also, here’s a juicy drama to see us through to autumn is just the ticket for these long summer evenings. DEEP WATER (ITV, 9pm), set in the Lake District, stars Anna Friel as mum-of-three Lisa, who runs a dog kennel and is happily married. But when she meets a handsome stranger at a dinner party, Lisa is tempted to make a mistake that will surely haunt her. Meanwhile, her mate Roz (Sinead Keenan) is up to her neck in debt.
