Nathan lights up Burton

BURTON BOURNEMOUTH 2 0

BURTON put on a power surge to leave Eddie Howe’s Premier League stars completely in the dark.

The tie looked to have been abandoned when the floodlights failed for a third time and prompted some fans to leave the ground.

It might have done Howe’s men a favour if the match had gone for a Burton but referee John Busby decided to give it one last go – leaving 28 minutes of stoppage time.

The Brewers were good value for their 1-0 lead when a power surge took the lights out just seven minutes into the second half.

The players came back on nine minutes later but were soon back in the dressing room when the pitch was plunged into darkness for a second time.

Referee Busby got them out again but could clearly be seen motioning that one more blackout and that was it. When they failed again he appeared to signal it was all over and some fans had actually left the ground when play resumed again.

Howe made 10 changes from the side that beat Southampton and it looked a few too many by the half-time break as his side trailed to Oliver Sarkic’s 14th-minute goal.

But there was a welcome reappearance of former skipper Simon Francis, almost nine months to the day after he was stretchered off against Tottenham with a ruptured cruciate ligament.

The Brewers had taken an early lead when Sarkic popped up at the far post to slam home his first goal in senior football.

And Burton put the game beyond the Cherries’ reach when Nathan Broadhead added a second from close range to complete the upset.
