£1,000 puppies ‘out of control’

Officers ‘play role of heroic knights’

COCKAPOOS are being dumped at animal centres because the dogs can turn into snarling monsters.

The pooches are the nation’s best-loved crossbreed, with famous owners including Harry Styles and Leona Lewis.

Puppies can sell for more than £1,000 each. But animal charities have seen a jump in owners who cannot cope with them.

Cockapoo expert Stephen Charlton said puppy farms were breeding dogs using parents that were not compatible.

He added: “People are putting together two dogs without checking that they have the correct temperament.

“And also a bitch in stress when she is pregnant and later giving birth can produce puppies that can be very aggressive in later life.

“Often everything is OK for the first few months and then suddenly, they can turn into a snarling, biting and aggressive dog. I’m being offered three or four a week now to rehome.”

The RSPCA said there had been a surge in popular cross-breeds being taken to its centres. HUNDREDS of police officers have been accused of exploiting crime victims for sex by pretending to be “knights in shining armour”. A damning official report found 415 complaints under “abuse of position for sexual purposes” were submitted to independent investigators in three years.

Those preyed upon included suspects, victims of crime, children, witnesses and vulnerable people. Inspector of Constabulary Zoe Billingham said: “Too often their abuser plays the role of the saviour in policing. They play the role of the knight in shining armour.” And she revealed most of the predatory officers “run before they are caught” and move from force to force if they catch wind of a complaint. Ms Billingham added: “There is no agreed way of passing soft intelligence between forces at the moment of transfer.” Her comments came as it was found that tens of thousands of police officers and staff are working without the proper vetting clearance which could help to root out sexual predators.

The report from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary highlighted the case of rapist Ian Naude who preyed on his 13-year-old victim while a police constable in Cheshire.
