It’s been fan-tastic for Nuno

FloresBAWL No sleep for aching

QUIQUE FLORES admits he has struggled to sleep since Watford’s nightmare at Manchester City.

The Hornets were thrashed 8-0 last week in the Spaniard’s second game back as boss.

That mauling left Flores, alone in England away from his family, torturing himself as he replayed the horror show in his mind.

And he couldn’t even clear his head with a run, as he’s injured.

Ahead of today’s trip to Wolves, Flores said: “It’s been difficult to sleep.

“It’s difficult because if you are proud of your profession, work very hard, represent your fans and represent people who have put you in this position you want to represent them well and not do things like that.

“You can feel shy and retire to your room and spend a couple of days thinking about it.

“I don’t ever want to go through Manchester City again. That’s what I’ve transmitted to my players.

“I like to run. Running clears my head. I run to think and I run to forget.

“I’ve not been able to run this week, no, because I’m rehabilitating from an Achilles tendon injury.

“But the most important thing at the moment is the players. I want them to run 10-12 kilometres, not me!”

Watford at least gave Flores the first win of his second spell on Tuesday when they beat Swansea 2-1 in the Carabao Cup.

But the Hornets have not kept a clean sheet in the league since February 9 and sorting out the defence has been Flores’ priority.

They are bottom and desperate for that first league win of the season, wth Flores adding: “We don’t have problems in attack, we have chances in every match.

“The problem is, if you need to attack well you need to defend. Defence is important for everything.

“The feeling when you finish a match without conceding is amazing. We will try and have that feeling again.

“Everyone can defend, not just the defenders. This was important four years ago, but this should be the base now.

“Watford should have more points than we do now. But I like the way the players have trained, the way they’ve taken our instructions and the way they’ve reacted.” NUNO ESPIRITO SANTO wants Wolves’ fans to roar them out of trouble.

His side, who sit second from bottom, host basement boys Watford as the only teams without a Premier League win this season battle it out today.

Wolves had been winless for four games until Wednesday’s welcome victory on penalties over Reading in the Carabao Cup.

And Nuno insists supporters buy into his juggling act with the Europa League, one of four competitions they are competing in.

The Wolves boss said: “This connection is the centre of everything and so everyone works around the idea of being a wolf and helping us.

“It means a lot and this is what we’re here for – to please and to work for the joy and the happiness of our fans.

“It has been building since we started in the Championship two years ago. So we appreciate it.

“Even when we went to Austria in pre-season two years ago, I remember 400 people there to support us.

“In the good moments and bad moments, they have always been with us. You saw it at the last game – the noise they made in the penalties.

“That’s a sign they are willing to help you.”
