MANUEL PELLEGRINI admits he is still seething after West Ham’s Carabao Cup humiliation at Oxford.

The usually mild-mannered Hammers boss tore a strip off his flops after they crashed 4-0 against the League One minnows.

And Pellegrini’s anger was heightened after the fourthround draw, which would have pitched West Ham at home to Sunderland and handed them a golden opportunity to reach the quarter-finals.

The Chilean made nine changes on Wednesday, prompting accusations from Hammers fans that he does not take the cups seriously.

But he said: “I can’t say what I said to the players, but you can imagine.

“I was very angry, because I always said that this was an opportunity to win a trophy.

“If we had beaten Oxford we would have been at home to Sunderland so maybe another step in the cup.

“Plus, for our mentality, you must try to win every game in every competition so it was a disappointing defeat, not only the score but because of the desire to continue in that cup.”

Pellegrini will revert to his first-choice side away to Bournemouth today as West Ham bid to extend their unbeaten Premier League run to six matches.

Lukasz Fabianski will return in goal, looking to add to his run of 343 minutes without conceding.

The 34-year-old Pole, West Ham’s player of the year last season, has finally laid to rest the ‘Flapianski’ nickname he picked up following some high-profile mistakes while at Arsenal.

Pellegrini rates his keeper as one of the best in the top flight, and said: “Lukasz’s form last season was very important.

“Last season he was, if not the best.

“This season he is continuing that and he is a serious player who works very hard.

“I do not know if the nickname was unfair.

“When you play in a big team you have to have good performances every time because the competition is high.

“Lukasz is having a good career. It is difficult to talk about other clubs he was at, but he deserves all the praise he is getting.

“Last season he was one of the best keepers in the league and I hope we can say the same this season.” best, then one of the CALLUM WILSON claims being benched by England boss Gareth Southgate has made him hungry for goals.

The Bournemouth striker did not feature in either of the Three Lions’ recent European Championship qualifiers.

Wilson, who has three caps, said: “It is a great squad and we are trying to be one of the best in the world.

“As a striker you always want to play, there is no denying that, but the manager made his decision and I respect that.

“You use it as a learning curve to give you that desire and that bit of hunger to go and stake a claim.”

Wilson has scored four times in his last three Premier League matches and is on a mission to become the first Cherries player to hit 20 goals in a top-flight season.

The 27-year-old added: “There is always room for improvement.

“I feel like I am coming into a bit of form now but it is about being consistent and trying to maintain that.

“It is no good doing it in little spells and showing it in glimpses, I need to be consistent throughout the season.

“And also try to hit good numbers for goals and help the team get more points.

“I want to achieve double figures as quickly as possible and once I hit that I want to get closer to 20.

“I always believe I am going to score goals.

“It is just about making sure you take the chances when they arise and I have started doing that now.” can’t think of a player who is more disciplined even though he’s not playing.”

The German hailed Palace manager Roy Hodgson for still being a top-flight boss at 72.

He said: “When I’m that age I will be sitting in the garden with a piece of cake and perhaps some wine.”
