Toffees are in freefall and it’s City up next but Silva says there’s...

MARCO SILVA says Everton have not hit the panic button despite the Toffees’ sticky start to the season.

They have lost back-to-back Premier League games against Bournemouth and Sheffield United and are 14th after six games. After another summer of big spending at Goodison Park it is a worrying start for boss Silva ahead of this evening’s visit from champions Manchester City.

But with his side three points off the drop zone but four off the top four, Silva insists he is not concerned. He said: “Of course we are not happy. We know everything starts now. It is too early to look at the table and panic.

“If we played well and got three points in the last game, you are talking completely different.

“Everything is too close. If you ask me if I am really concerned or panicking, of course not.

“We know what we are doing, we know what we should improve and results will come.”

The Everton boss is remaining calm but he admitted his players were hurting after last Saturday’s home defeat by Sheffield United.

He added: “They show to me straight after the match [they are hurting] when I had a chat with them.

“I felt in that moment and they and (below left) graffiti outside Goodison Park felt as well, we shared the frustration with what happened in the second half.”

Pep Guardiola’s City arrive today looking to keep on the tails of Everton’s neighbours Liverpool at the top of the table.

The Toffees have yet to win a game in the Premier League under Silva when they have conceded first.

Silva added: “We are working on that.

“It is something we are talking about to improve. We have the conditions to improve as a team.

“It is up to us to relax in some moments, to be calm and to do the normal things and the basics.”
