BLOCK3 GEAR

LEGO set to launch petrolhead models

TOP Gear has struck a deal with LEGO to offer sets for petrolheads who can’t afford real cars.

It will give both young and older fans the chance to create their own dream vehicles using the famous toy building bricks.

Special LEGO Technic Top Gear Sets are set to go on sale next year.

Bosses reckon the BBC Two show – starring Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris – will inspire viewers to build their own wacky and innovative cars, trucks and even rockets.

Jason Easy, who is head of Licensing UK at BBC Studios, said: “We are extremely excited. Both brands enjoy a very close relationship with their fans.

“It’s certainly a natural fit for both and we’re looking forward to seeing the LEGO Technic Set hit the shelves next year.”

LEGO, which is based in Denmark, claims its “mission” is to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow ‘‘through the power of play’.’

The firm’s senior licencing manager Eloise Bradley added: “Bringing us together will be a dream come true for car fans all over the world.”

It is not yet known whether Paddy, Freddie and Chris will eventually also find themselves turned into LEGO figures. But Top Gear and Lego are not strangers.

Former hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond were made into figures for an advert in 2015 to plug their series.

And back in 2009, the company gave May 3.3million bricks so he and a group of volunteers could build a full-sized house for his BBC show Toy Stories.
