Rowing ace denies diva meltdown

EX-Olympic champ James Cracknell has denied he had a backstage tantrum after becoming the first celebrity voted off the show.

It was claimed that the 47-yearold gold medal rower threw a hissy fit and ranted: “I wish I’d never done this show” when he was axed by the judges on Sunday.

But he said: “I know I’m no John Travolta so to throw my toys out the pram would be stupid.”

Cracknell, who had been paired with pro dancer Luba Mushtuk, had proved a ballroom dud on the BBC show after scoring 11 points last week for his tango and 13 on Saturday for his jive.

However, he retaliated getting criticism online.

Cracknell posted on Instagram: “I don’t reply to people’s comments but I’m not gonna let this one go. Luba and I had fun and our best dance but it wasn’t enough.

“I’m no dancer (& knew it), I’ve always avoided things I know I’d be bad at, but I wanted that to stop. I had fun and learned a lot about myself.”

Dad-of-three Cracknell, who suffered a brain injury when he was hit by a petrol tanker while cycling in America in 2010, told Radio Times: “I come from a background of showing no emotion.

“In rowing all that matters is to tolerate the pain and cross the line first. That doesn’t work in dancing.

“It’s the reason I wanted to do Strictly – to be prepared to show weakness and, perhaps, surprise myself.” ★

KARIM Zeroual larks about with partner Amy Dowden as they kick their way towards rehearsals.

Their foxtrot earned an impressive 32 at the weekend.

And they will be bidding for top spot again on “Movies Week’’ this Saturday. ★

DANCING brothers AJ Pritchard and his Love Island star brother Curtis enjoy a lads night out.

The pair were all smiles as they stepped out in London in coordinating red jumpers on Sunday. ★

EX England keeper David James, 49, carries a mannequin over his shoulders en route to rehearsals. It’s “Movie Week” this weekend which might help explain the dancer’s mysterious prop.
