Bruce is livid with his flops

way we were set up or how we didn’t set up.

“As I said, we’ve got to be much, much better, put it behind us and move on from it as quick as we can.

“It’s a massive wake-up call, if there hadn’t been one already. Hopefully, there’s no more days like that to come.”

It was the first time since taking charge three months ago that Bruce, 58, lost his temper in the dressing room after a game.

He accused his players of giving up once Isaac Hayden was sent off for a horror tackle just before half-time.

Longstaff also sympathised with the travelling fans who were still cheering even after Leicester’s fifth goal went in.

“We should never put them in the position where they’re in a stadium cheering just for the sake of it,” said Longstaff.

“Obviously, it’s a tough one. The first half, we go a goal behind but we’re still getting into some alright positions. The sending off kills the game but the second half is embarrassing.

“Of course it is hard for the fans to take. It’s a Sunday night game, miles away from home.

“They were singing at the end. We can’t thank them enough for what they bring.”

Newcastle striker Andy Carroll added: “We should hang our heads in shame, the whole lot of us.

“We were terrible. We were not like that in training, so we shouldn’t be like that on a weekend.

“There were very strong words from the manager. He was disappointed, and so he should be. So should we be.

“We’ve got a good team. We’ve got strength, we’ve got depth, we’ve got a good manager.

“We know what we need to do. We just need to show it.”
