HYPOCRITICAL Extinction Rebellion protesters brought central London to a standstill while scoffing on “capitalist” McDonald’s.

A Greggs branch was also doing a roaring trade as thousands of activists marked the second day of the two-week protest yesterday.

Tory MP Ben Bradley posted: “Capitalism is killing us all!! We should stop eating meat!! Right then guys, let’s knock off. Maccy Ds anyone!?

“The lack of self-awareness is absolutely staggering”.

Frustrated Londoner Adam Brooks added: “Almost all McDonald’s toys are plastic and wrapped in plastic.

“They are the poster company of capitalism.

“They contribute to world litter on a massive scale. The amount of beef they buy worldwide… staggering”.

Morgan said: “The hypocrisy that comes with these people… they went McDonald’s for lunch.

“They are shameless hypocrites going to the epicentre of mass produced food”.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Boris Johnson labelled the protesters “uncooperative crusties”.

The middle-class movement spent a second day being gradually moved towards Trafalgar Square. Many of those arrested to simply returned to the protest hours after being bailed. In total, the Met police have made more than 400 arrests.

One man who was arrested on Monday night was back on the picket line yesterday after being bailed just hours earlier.

Another woman, who called herself Mary and said she was 73, revealed that she was due to be arrested for refusing to move off the Mall on Monday night but was later told there were not enough police cells.

She vowed to stay for the full two weeks regardless of whether she was detained.

Activists also attached themselves to the underside of a lorry

to block a road outside the Home Office. Another climbed on top of the lorry and set up a tent. Protesters have glued themselves to the Department for Transport building, a tactic used in similar protests in April.

A hearse also blocked the road leading to Westminster with the driver locking himself to the steering wheel. Extinction Rebellion is part of an “international rebellion” with action taking place in Berlin, Madrid, Amsterdam and New York.

The movement is calling on the Government to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero and set up a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.
