Boss takes credit for all of my work

NO PAY HIKE IN YEARS

-

GOING into work is a total nightmare right now.

I’m the one grafting while my lazy boss gets the credit. I carry him with my contacts and my “never-say-die” attitude.

I’m a people person – he’s not. I can get on with anyone whereas he has the charm of a rhino.

He rubs people up the wrong way and makes enemies of rivals and customers alike.

Flog

Six months ago I noticed a sea change. He put me in charge of everything. Now all he does is sit on his fat backside all day, raking in the money, while I flog myself.

He’d be nothing without me, yet he talks to me like dirt and pays me a pittance.

I haven’t had a pay rise in the three years I’ve been here.

He’s always got an excuse – trading times are hard, Brexit, cashflow problems etc. Yet that doesn’t stop him buying new cars and clothes and having his house totally refurbished.

My brother-in-law is in the building trade. Several of his men have been working for my boss and reckon the kitchen alone cost £40,000. Meanwhile, I’m struggling on peanuts.

Any time he’s forced to meet contacts in the trade he calls me in. He picks my brains and then passes my ideas off as his own. At a recent charity golf day (where I was caddying for him) he repeated everything I’d been saying about foreign trading.

Everyone was telling him how wise and insightful he was.

I’m not normally a negative person but he makes my blood boil. I thought when I started this job it would be good for me and that I’d make a name and career for myself. But I’m being hung out to dry by this bloodsucker and feel so bitter and angry.

JANE SAYS: Tempting as it might be to have a row with your boss, it’s important that you keep your cool because the world of business is a small one and it’s never a good idea to make enemies.

You’re clearly a very bright person with good ideas and natural talent.

Despite your crafty boss stealing all your thoughts you’re still coming up with the goods and making his business a success.

Have faith in yourself and do not let him rob you of your confidence and sparkle. Write down a list of everything you’re good at and everything you’ve achieved. Then think about all the jobs you would like to do in all the places that take your fancy.

Your shot at the big time and the big money needs to start now. Don’t do anything rash but do hatch a plan so that you have something positive to work towards.

You won’t change your backsliding boss, so start making your own luck.

There is something to learn from every experience, so you cannot say these past few years have been wasted.

Your best form of revenge is to be a massive success. Start mapping out your destiny right now.
