Twins the new stars of British basketTALL!

- by IAN WHITTELL

THE Lavrinovic twins are the biggest things ever to hit British basketball.

And if they have their way, the 6ft 10½in Lithuanian superstars will soon have the Guinness World Records book prove it for them.

Ksystof and Darjus are from the hoopsmad former Soviet state and currently play in the BBL for the London City Royals.

The movie-making siblings, 39, are even embroiled in a social media spat with the NBA-playing Lopez brothers over who are the tallest twins on the planet.

Darjus said: “We love London – it’s nice, beautiful, but very big.

“We come from a village of, like, 6,000 people and it just took us three hours to get from one side of London to the other.

“But we have travelled a lot in our careers so it is not a problem.”

Darjus’ career has included spells with Euro giants like CSKA, Real Madrid and Fenerbahce, while Ksystof has starred for Lithuanian side Zalgiris and Italian greats Siena, among many others.

Ksystof is also well known for his marriage to former Miss Russia supermodel Tatyana Sidorchuk, saying: “My wife is more famous than me.

“She is much more famous than my brother – and better looking! She was Miss Russia in 2004 and was in Miss World.”

The Lavrinovics’ massive following means Lithuanian fans have flown in to watch them, while Royals games are streamed back home.

And after two successful YouTube documentaries about their lives, they are now starring in their own movie.

Darjus said: “It’s a comedy and we’re filming it in Lithuania and Turkey.

“It’s about people from all these different cultures who go on holiday to a resort.

“For us, it is a new experience but maybe we can become movie stars.”

In the meantime, the Royals have benefited from the arrangement, winning all four of their early-season BBL Cup games ahead of Saturday’s trip to the Surrey Scorchers.

And while silverware remains high on their list of priorities, the brothers have another title in their sights.

The death of 7ft 3in American Mike Lanier at the age of 48 last year means the title of the world’s tallest twins is up for grabs.

The Lavrinovics have staked a claim, although American aces Brook and Robin Lopez are listed as standing at 7ft.

However, NBA teams are notorious for exaggerating heights and the 31-year-olds have so far refused to rise to the bait laid down on social media by their Lithuanian rivals for a measure-off.
