HOSPITAL wards are being locked to protect patients and staff.

Some workers have been attacked and seen drug deals take place on site.

Two wards at University Hospital of North Tees in Co Durham are now kept locked and others may follow.

Chief nurse Julie Lane said: “We have struggled with issues surrounding drug addiction with some of our patients.

“We will not on safety.” ★

SOME mutts will doing anything for a little attention. Amateur snapper Chris Porsz from Peterborough has put some of his daftest dog photos into a new book called Barking! ★

Chris said: “I wanted to show dogs warts and all, barking, growling and even pooing.” A FAR-right nut has been jailed after telling the BBC they should not call Formula 1 ace Lewis Hamilton “English”.

Ian Hargreaves, 66, threatened to shoot presenter Clive Myrie and F1 commentator Jack Nicholls in 27 messages sent via an online complaints form on the BBC’s website.

Hargreaves also made “disturbing references” to the murder of Jill Dando who was shot in 1999.

Anthony Dunn, prose- cuting, said both Mr Myrie and Mr Nicholls were given security advice.

When police asked Hargreaves if he was in possession of anything illegal, he told them he had a knife in his pocket, adding: “Some b ***** ds have threatened me.”

A total of 1,341 child sexual abuse images were also found on electronic devices in his Leeds home.

Hargreaves was jailed for 18 months at Leeds Crown Court after admitting two charges of sending malicious communications and possessing an offensive weapon and indecent images of children.

Mr Dunn said among Hargreaves’ complaints was that five-time world champ Hamilton, 34, who was born in Stevenage, Herts, “should not be described as an Englishman”.

He added: “He threatened to act on those complaints by threatening to shoot a BBC presenter.”

In a victim impact statement, Mr Myrie said he found the threats “deeply troubling”.

Hargreaves was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for seven years.
