Rams risk everything on Ramsey

I’ll storm to victory

- AMERICAN FOOTBALL with IAN WHITTELL ■ by CHRIS McKENNA

(below) LA RAMS have gambled in a bid to save their season after Shahid Khan failed to persuade Jacksonville’s defensive superstar Jalen Ramsey to stay.

Khan, who also owns Fulham, tried to talk the unsettled Ramsey into falling into line after one of the game’s best cornerbacks fell out with Jaguars coaching staff and demanded a move.

But Jacksonville decided to cut their losses after the Rams came calling for Ramsey in a bid to try to reverse a three-game losing streak. That cost the Rams two first round, and one fourth round, draft picks.

Ramsey (right) has missed Jaguars’ last three games with a back injury but should make his Rams debut at Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

A Rams loss would leave them with a mountain to climb, especially as rivals

REGIS PROGRAIS has already got the better of two hurricanes, so he isn’t afraid of Scotland’s ‘Tartan Tornado’.

The American WBA light-welterweight champion faces IBF title holder Josh Taylor in the final of the World Boxing Super Series at the O2 Arena on Saturday week. Prograis, 30, has been finishing his preparations in London this week at Canning Town’s famous Peacock Gym. The weather hasn’t been great for a man who now spends most of his time in LA, but it is only a minor inconvenience. A tattoo on his chest bears the words ‘New Orleans’ alongside landmarks of the city where he grew up. There is also the date ‘08-29-2005’ – the day Hurricane Katrina hit and the life of a 16-year-old, who had been busy “fighting and chasing girls” on the streets, changed forever. Prograis and his family headed for Houston. “On the computer you could type in your zip code to see an area and it looked like a lake,” he said. “All you could see was the roofs of the houses. That’s when we knew we were never going home. San Francisco 49ers top their NFC West with a 5-0 record.

San Francisco inflicted the latest loss with a 20-7 win.

Running back Robert Woods said: “We look like a good offence sometimes and then we look a bad offence. We’re just not consistent.”

The Niners should make it six out of six when they visit the struggling Washington Redskins on Sunday.

But, as one of only two undefeated NFL teams along with the 6-0 New England Patriots, San Fran have been a sensation. Niners rookie Nick Bosa said: “We beat the Super

Bowl finalists.

If that’s not a statement by our defence, then

I don’t know what can be.”

Also this weekend, AFC West rivals Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos meet tonight, while old foes Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys meet in Texas on Sunday. For me life would never be the same.” The family spent nine months in hotels, with stints in friends’ garages as well, before finally settling into their new home.

But while Hurricane Katrina wrecked homes, businesses and lives, it created something – a world champion.

“I wouldn’t be here but for Hurricane Katrina because the boxing in New Orleans is not like the boxing in Houston,” he said.

“When I moved to Houston, there was so much talent around. It makes you a better fighter. At the time it was terrible but it was the best thing to ever happen to me.”

In Houston, Prograis trained with Evander Holyfield and grew up with other world champions. He was a talented amateur before turning pro and worked his way up the rankings.

But just when Prograis, nicknamed ‘Rougarou’ after a werewolf from Louisiana folklore, was on the verge of a world title shot in 2017, another hurricane hit him.

“Hurricane Harvey,” he added. “It was the same weekend as the Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor fight. We went to my aunt’s house to watch it and everyone who went got stuck. We were there for six days.”

The world title did eventually come after he beat Brit Terry Flanagan in the quarterfinal of the WBSS and took the WBA crown from Kiryl Relikh in the last four.

A legal battle with the tournament organisers almost saw the unbeaten Prograis pull out, but he dismissed talk he was afraid of ‘Tartan Tornado’ Taylor.

“I’ve gone through two hurricanes, now I’ve got to go through a Tornado,” he said.
