JEREMY VILE

Behind-the-scenes footage shocks MPs He led booing & mockery of guests

- by ALEXANDER BROWN

JEREMY Kyle was blasted for his “demeaning, humiliating and insulting” behaviour towards vulnerable telly guests.

Politicians ripped him apart in an MPs committee where they were shown uneditied footage of his show.

ANGRY MPs have blasted Jeremy Kyle and demanded ITV explains his “demeaning, humiliating and insulting” behaviour towards vulnerable telly guests.

The Jeremy Kyle Show host was accused of “highly unethical” actions after politicians were shown unedited footage from the programme for the first time.

The Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee slammed the presenter for “standing over people and using mockery and insults” to intimidate them for TV entertainment.

The probe comes after the suspected suicide of former guest Steve Dymond. The long-running daytime talk show was then axed.

Committee chairman Damian Collins has now written to ITV Studios boss Julian Bellamy demanding answers.

He asked for senior bosses’ views on the presenter’s use of “demeaning language” and his general treatment of guests.

His questions included: “Did Jeremy face any consequences for the language he used while filming?” and: “Do you accept this provocation to vulnerable people with no TV experience is highly unethical?”

Another read: “Why is it one rule for the presenter and one for contributors?” The MPs also want to know about the way Kyle “is seen criticising a contributor as she answers a question relating to her sexual partners”. The letter said: “This serves to humiliate and denigrate a woman on the basis of her sexual behaviour.”

It asks: “Does ITV Studios condone this approach exhibited by Jeremy Kyle?”

Kyle, 54, has repeatedly been asked to appear before MPs to explain his actions, but failed to show up.

Mr Dymond’s family is demanding ITV bosses hand over unseen material from the show. ITV declined to comment.

TROUBLING questions remain about the way Jeremy Kyle conducted himself on his show.

Especially how he was allowed to get away with it for so long.

He treated TV guests in the most appalling fashion, according to MPs who have seen unedited footage.

They paint a vivid portrait of him as a powerful bully who thought he could get away with whatever he wanted.

The MPs claim he used “demeaning and insulting language” and humiliated “vulnerable” people by mocking them.

They have rightly pointed out how “highly unethical” his provocative behaviour was.

It makes for grim reading.

The more we hear about what went on, the more shocking it seems how long it was allowed to last.

ITV bosses must fully answer the questions sent to them.

But the presenter himself must also give evidence.

It is unbelievable he has managed to escape scrutiny so far.

He has shown himself to be a complete coward.

Surely it is time for him to finally face the music.
