Ginger curse for Neil

FORMER Labour leader Neil Kinnock reckoned the reason he was an election flop was his ginger pubic hair.

Retired BBC broadcaster John Humphrys claims the Welsh politician told him his red hair hurt his appeal with voters.

Lord Kinnock, now 77, was leader of the Labour party for nine years. However, he lost two general elections and never managed to become Prime Minister.

Revealing their chat, 76-year-old John explained: “He gave me some of the reasons why he thought he’d been beaten so badly.

“One was more an accident of birth than human error – ‘I’ve got ginger hair right?’ he asked me.

“‘So when people look at the voting slip in the polling station and see my name they automatically think ‘pubic hair’ and it put them off voting for me.’”

The story comes from Humphrys’ new book A Day Like Today.
