Zo tops Oz for vid kids
MORE kids can name YouTuber Zoella than Dorothy from The Wizard Of Oz.
A poll found 22% can identify talking lion Aslan from The Chronicles Of Narnia, while just 3% knew Charlotte from Charlotte’s Web and 10% could name Dorothy, played in the 1939 film by Judy Garland.
This compared to 30% who could identify JoJo Siwa, a US YouTuber and dancer, and 18% who recognised fashion and lifestyle blogger Zoe Sugg, known as Zoella.
Surprise Toys, a YouTube channel dedicated to watching people unwrap toys, was known by 24% of the children surveyed by Sainsbury’s.
Just half said they read for fun, and seven in 10 prefer to watch YouTube.
Three in four parents blame improvements in technology.
Sainsbury’s did the research as part of a scheme to encourage staff to do voluntary work. As part of it, model Katie Piper visited Riverview Primary in Tolworth, Surrey, in a bus converted to a library.
