School families can sue

A SURVIVOR and relatives of the Sandy Hook school massacre victims can pursue their lawsuit against the maker of the rifle used to kill 26 people.

An appeal from Remington Arms that it was shielded by a 2005 federal law was rejected in the US Supreme Court.

The lawsuit says the company, based in Madison, North Carolina, should never have sold a weapon as dangerous as the Bushmaster AR-15 style rifle to the public.

Gunman Adam Lanza, 20, used it to kill 20 young children and six teachers at the school in Connecticut in December 2012.

The lawsuit also alleges Remington targeted at-risk males in marketing and product placement in violent video games.

Lanza had shot dead his mother and killed himself as police arrived at the school. The rifle was legally owned by her.

The National Rifle Association, 10 Republican-led states and 22 Republicans in Congress were among those urging the court to end the lawsuit against Remington.

TROUBLED snooker star Willie Thorne has announced that he and his former Miss Great Britain wife Jill Saxby have split up.

The 65-year-old, who made a fortune before a gambling addiction left him £1million in debt, moved to Villamartin in Spain with her earlier this year.

Willie had hoped to make a living offering snooker lessons to ex-pats and giving after-dinner speeches.

But after a few months abroad the former Strictly star and Jill, who he met in 1994 and wed a year later, have called quits on their marriage.

Willie, who was a snooker commentator on the BBC for more than 20 years, said: “Just so everybody knows and before rumours start, Jill and I have separated and she has gone back to the UK.

“I hope to be here in Spain.”

He did not give any more updates on what caused the breakdown although his money woes are said to have caused a strain on their relationship.

The dad-of-three once said Jill stopped him taking his own life in 2015 at the peak of his gambling habit. staying
