HOT TV CHOICE
Young whippersnapper Ronnie Wood, guitarist with the Rolling Stones, makes his debut appearance tonight on one of BBC Two’s longest-running shows. No, not Newsnight (although I can think of worse ideas) but LATER – WITH
JOOLS HOLLAND (10pm). He’ll be turning up there with his other outfit, Wild Five, to play songs from their latest live album, a tribute to the legendary Chuck Berry.
Ronnie will also be back tomorrow night (11.10pm), along with his friend and frequent collaborator Imelda May, to co-host the longer version of Jools’s show. Other acts lined up include Lewis Capaldi and Foals.
Elsewhere tonight, in THE SECRET LIFE OF THE ZOO (8pm, Channel 4), we meet Khari and Shani. They’re a charming couple but they’re also a pair of dik-diks. I mean that in the nicest possible way, mind you, because dik-diks are a type of tiny antelope, notable for the fact that, once they’ve found a partner, they nearly always stick with them for life. Right now Shani is pregnant, which is obviously great news, but Khari has started acting unusually aggressively, which obviously isn’t. Can Chester’s keepers figure out what’s up, and stop him being such an utter… ? (I’ll leave you to figure out the pay-off.)
Elsewhere, over at the flamingo zone, or whatever it’s called, keeper Lauren has something she needs to get off her chest. “I don’t want to be the person to say that flamingoes aren’t intelligent,” she says. “But you can see how people can call them stupid birds.”
