How much training will contestant­s on Strictly typically go through?

Some will be fitting in training when they can. Others put in 4-5 hours or more a day. I used to find the further in the competitio­n they stay the more they become hungry and put more hours in.

I’d generally say that pretty much all of the training is taken up learning the steps, some technique and polishing the performanc­e.

How do dancers stay so fit?

Dancing is a fantastic form of exercise and I think most dancers focus on their dance training for fitness.

I know some dancers outside exercises and do weights.

What styles of dances give you the best workout?

They all do, but some are better for toning, like the rumba, and others are more aerobic, like the jive or quickstep.

What injuries are dancers prone to?

Every dancer’s body is different. I think as a general injury for the guys it’s probably the back or neck and for the women ankles and knees.

What do you think is the key to fitness?

For me the priority is correcting muscular imbalances first.

These can come about from daily living, like the way we sit.

Muscular imbalances are when a particular muscle becomes overactive or tight and as a result another becomes lengthened and weaker.

If we don’t correct these muscle imbalances and start lifting weights, for example, our body will have to compensate for the imbalances and chances are an injury will occur. Secondly, inner core strength is so important and often overlooked. Inner muscles produce inter-abdominal who do no others who
