Doni does it cheaper

THIS week the cheapest electric car that you can buy.

It’s the Skoda Citigo e iV, Skoda’s first pure EV. We’ve seen the car before as the VW e-UP but up until now only Volkswagen has sold the electric version. Now Skoda and Seat have put their badges on the car to make the Citigo e iV and Seat Mii Electric.

So, what have we got? An 82bhp electric motor driving the front wheels and powered by a 36.8kWh battery.

It’s the same arrangement that’s fitted to VW and Seat’s version of the car.

The range according to the WLTP testing regimen is 161 miles, which is more than adequate for a car that is well suited to town driving, as it is with a petrol engine.

Actually, the Citigo is now only available in electric form, which is interesting.

Where the Citigo e iV differs from its siblings is in charging. Both of the other cars come only with rapid CCS charging, whereas with the Skoda you get a choice of two models: SE and SE L, with the former coming without CCS rapid charging. This means that the fastest you’ll be able to charge the

EARLY bird tickets are now on sale for the Donington historic racing festival that’s taking place on May 1-3 next year.

Expect full grids of classic racing cars plus car club stands.

The weekend kicks off with practice on Friday, which you can watch for only a tenner and then Saturday and Sunday for the racing.

A weekend ticket for all three days is £35 with kids under 12 going free. Have a look on doningtonhistoric.com for more details and tickets.

SE is 4hrs 15min using a 7kW wallbox.

The SE L, however, with CCS charging can be recharged from a 40kW rapid charger in just one hour. Let’s talk money, because this is what’s going to make the Citigo e iV an easy sell for your local Skoda salesperson.

The SE (minus the Government’s PiCG grant) costs £16,995 which makes it the keenest priced pure electric car you can buy. The SE L is reasonable too at £19,315 (virtually the same price as Seat’s version).

As well as the fast charging facility the SE L comes with 16in alloy wheels, body-coloured mirrors, ambient lighting and a comfort pack that includes heated seats and parking sensors. Like the petrol Citigo before it the iV doesn’t
