FUTURE’S ROSY WITH JOSE

Danny: He can take Spurs into top four

DANNY ROSE claims Jose Mourinho can complete Mission Impossible this season.

Tottenham were 11 points off the top four when Mourinho took charge of the side last month after Mauricio Pochettino was axed.

But they have cut the gap to just six and Rose believes they can now go on to get into the Champions League places.

The England defender also believes that Mourinho’s record of delivering trophies can help Spurs win their first silverware since the League Cup in 2008.

Mourinho left big guns like Harry Kane and Dele Alli back in London for Wednesday’s Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich so they can recharge their batteries for Sunday’s trip to Wolves.

League form is now the No.1 priority and Rose said: “I want to do as well as I possibly can, work as hard as I can to achieve what looked impossible a few weeks ago – finishing in the top four.

“I’m looking forward to the massive Christmas run that we’ve got. It was an unbelievable performance from the lads last weekend (5-0) against Burnley, probably the best of the season.

“I hope the lads who have rested at home will be ready to go at the weekend and I hope we can continue the great performance from the weekend.

“I felt very lucky to work under Mauricio Pochettino and I feel very lucky to work under Jose.

“He’s won a lot of trophies and he is a serial winner, so I imagine we will be looking to win the FA Cup and finishing in the top four of the league.

“He’s one of the most decorated managers of my lifetime. It’s been a good start for the team and I’ve enjoyed it.”

Rose, 29, has already said he will see out the last 18 months of his contract and then leave – and even Mourinho’s arrival has not changed his mind.

“I’ve never had a conversation with him and I don’t see why I need to,” said the left-back. “As I said before, I’m here for the next 18 months.

“I think everybody has got to start again and we’re all starting from the same point, or at least I hope we are. I should think I’m no different to anybody else.”

Rose has also praised Ryan Sessegnon after his first Spurs start and goal at Bayern Munich. The £25m teenager looks ready to push his case to be a first-team regular and Rose added: “We know Ryan is for the future but we also know what he can do now, he was just so unlucky with injuries.

“He arrived here injured from the Under-21 Euros and had a setback. Now we’re all looking forward to seeing what he can do for us in the future.”

Spurs ace Eric Dier added: “Ryan’s a very exciting player with lots of potential.

‘‘He obviously did really well against Bayern, scored his goal and hopefully he will continue to improve.”
