Bill for meals can double across UK
PUB-GOERS are being hit by a roastcode lottery with some paying double for their dinner depending on where they live.
A study of Sunday roast prices at Brit boozers found the cheapest, at Greene King pubs in Birmingham, costs just £5.99.
Hungry punters in London are shelling out £13.99 to eat at the same chain.
Researchers analysed prices in Greene King, Harvester and JD Wetherspoon – and found they depend on area.
The average price across all three firms in London came in at £11.53.
In Birmingham, the cheapest city, the average is £8.24 to £3.29 cheaper.
Liverpool was second most expensive with an average price of £10.91.
Joint third were
Newcastle and Sheffield on
£10.74, with Leeds fourth and Cardiff fifth.
Edinburgh was second cheapest on an £8.27 average, followed for best value by Bristol, Plymouth and Stoke-on-Trent.
Researchers at discount website VoucherCodes. co.uk analysed November prices across the three pub chains in 24 cities.
Anita Naik, from the firm, said: “With Christmas just around the corner it’s certainly the season for festive Sunday roasts at your local pub.
“However, it’s alarming to see that you could be paying over double the price for your roast simply depending on where you live.
“With gifts to buy and often a lot of socialising, December can be costly, so it’s worth exploring your options before you head out to eat to make sure you’re getting a good deal.
“The fact prices can vary so much within towns, let alone across the country, shows it really does pay to do a bit of research.”
