FREDDIE’S NO

- ■ by JEREMY CROSS

ARSENAL came as the turkeys and Manchester City provided the stuffing as the crisis at the Emirates sunk to new depths.

The Gunners were so bad they were booed off at half-time and then full-time by those fans who chose to stick around, while others who left early did so to taunts from the away end of, ‘Go finish your Christmas shopping.’

On this evidence, good advice.

Caretaker boss Freddie Ljungberg has a long wish list heading into the festive season and the best present he could get is an entirely new back four.

But the chances of him still being around to be lavished with such gifts are fading fast as he struggles to make an impact in the wake of Unai Emery’s sacking.

City were back to their thrilling best to inflict maximum pain on a Gunners side that has won just once it seemed like in five games since Ljungberg took charge – and not triumphed at the Emirates since October.

The exceptional Kevin De Bruyne scored twice, while Raheem Sterling added a third to get City back on track following their recent blip.

City headed to the Emirates trailing Liverpool by 17 points and their tally of 32 was Pep Guardiola’s worst return after the first 16 games of a top-flight season in his managerial career.

To make matters even worse, speculation continues to mount that this could well be the Spaniard’s last season at the Etihad.

The City boss was forced to deny reports he has a break clause in his contract, which is hardly the ideal
