Brilliant footie pullout

Hundreds damn Freddie by leaving at half-time

FREDDIE Ljungberg’s hopes of becoming the permanent Arsenal boss were left in tatters following a festive farce at the Emirates.

The Gunners were humiliated as Manchester City went 3-0 up by halftime as they coasted to victory.

The brilliant Kevin De Bruyne scored twice and hundreds of home fans headed for the exits to ramp up the pressure to find a full-time replacement for Unai Emery.

Ljungberg added his voice, saying: “I’ve said to them (the board) they need to make a decision. To clear it

up. I’m honoured to do it and try to do the best I can, but a decision has to be made so we can have the same resources as other clubs.

“When I say that, they say I have to wait and see.”

The Gunners have now gone six home games without a win in all competitions for the first time since 1995 – when George Graham was boss.

To round off the shambles, Mesut Ozil was hauled off inside an hour and kicked his gloves in frustration.

Caretaker boss Ljungberg, who wants the job but has managed one win in five attempts, said he would deal with Ozil this week.

City No.2 Mikel Arteta is one man linked with the job at the Emirates.

His boss Pep Guardiola refused to rule out the possibility, saying: “He is part of the huge success we’ve had. An important part.

“What will happen, will happen. I think he is part of our staff, so what is going to happen I don’t know, but at the end it’s personal. If he wants a job we are open to talk.

“I don’t want to make him uncomfortable.”
