A DIPLOMAT’S wife has been charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of teenager Harry Dunn.

Harry, 19, died when his motorbike collided with a car allegedly driven by Anne Sacoolas.

Sacoolas, 42, was then controversially allowed to claim diplomatic immunity and return to the US. She now faces being extradited to the UK, although her lawyer Amy Jeffress said she would not return “voluntarily to face a potential jail sentence”.

She claimed that the smash outside RAF Croughton, Northants, was “a terrible but unintentional accident”.

After hearing the decision to charge Sacoolas, Harry’s parents Tim Dunn and Charlotte Charles broke down and said they were “relieved” to finally uphold a deathbed promise to their son.

Ms Charles said: “My son died on August 27, doing what he loved most, riding his beloved motorbike.

Pain

“He was riding perfectly safely that evening. He had his whole life in front of him and he was taken from us far too young.

“The pain of our loss eats away inside us.

“We now expect Anne Sacoolas to be subject to the same legal process as the rest of us would be.”

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said he hopes Sacoolas “will now realise the right thing to do is to come back to the UK”.

He added that a Government review found an “anomaly” that meant family members of US officers at Croughton had “greater protection” than the officers themselves.

Discussions are now underway to address the loophole.
