Spurs in monkey chants storm
Sickening Rudiger abuse is latest stain on game
TOTTENHAM vowed to get tough on racism after Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger suffered abuse at White Hart Lane yesterday.
The defender was the victim of monkey chants after a tussle in the 62nd minute that saw Heung-min Son kick out a boot into his chest as he fell under a challenge.
Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta alerted the referee to what was later confirmed as a single incident, although on three separate occasions, a security announcement was read over the public
address system saying, “racist behaviour from spectators is interfering with the game”.
Azpilicueta said: “It is made very clear to us all that if we have heard any racist incident to report it.
“Tony came to me and told me he was listening to racist songs towards him so I told the referee. We are very concerned and aware of this behaviour. Altogether we need to make it stop.
“I hope everything gets clear and we eradicate it as soon as possible.
“It’s an issue not just in football but in life.”
An object also appeared to be thrown from the same section of the ground at Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and Tottenham later said in a statement: “We are now conducting a thorough investigation which will include liaising with Chelsea and their players for their observations.
“We take any such allegations extremely seriously and shall take the strongest possible action against any individual found to be behaving in such a way, including stadium bans.”
MILLWALL say they will issue a lifetime ban to any fan found guilty of racism after a Barnsley player was abused at the end of the Tykes’ 2-1 win at The Den on Saturday.
The club is working with its security team, Barnsley and the police to identify the fan, who was in a home end.
