CORRIE ARSON PLOT TOO CLOSE TO HOME Attack ‘copy’ of kid horror

- ■ by ANDREW JAMESON andrew.jameson@dailystar.co.uk

CORONATION Street has been blasted over its “sick” arson storyline – for being too similar to nearby recent real-life events.

Viewers watched in horror on Monday as a mystery attacker set fire to Chesney and Gemma Brown’s letterbox as the mum and her quadruplet babies were sleeping.

Many felt it was too chillingly close to a 5am petrol bomb attack which killed four sleeping children in 2017 in Salford, close to Corrie’s Manchester set. The youngsters’ mother Michelle Pearson, 37, died 20 months later from her injuries.

One fan wrote: “Sorry but #Corrie storyline with an arson attack on a home with children inside is too raw for lots of people in Gtr Manchester.”

Others drew similarities with evil dad Mick Philpott and his wife Mairead, who caused the deaths of his five children and their halfbrother in Derby in 2012 in an arson attack as youngsters all slept.

One wrote: “Arson storyline is bang out of order, far too similar to the Philpott children.”

A third added: “What a horrendous storyline for Coronation Street, you should be ashamed.”

A Corrie spokeswoman last night defended the episodes, saying it was important to highlight the dangers of vigilantes.

She added: “Coronation Street has never shied away from tackling difficult issues.” the ★
