GUITAR HERO BUGG HAS A POP AT FRESH STYLE

-

INDIE icon is going pop – and reckons guitar heroes can learn a lot from other musicians on how to behave.

Jake featured on dance duo Camelphat’s recent hit Be Someone and admits working in a different genre was an eye-opener.

“I was taken aback by how supportive the electronic world is of one another,” Jake told me. “Everyone has each other’s back, whereas in the guitar world it gets more egotistical and competitive.”

Jake admits he was no saint himself back in the day: “I said a few bitchy things when I was younger, as sometimes we’ve let our ego get hold of us. That’s silly – we should be supportive.”

Jake has just released new single Kiss Like The Sun, the first taster of a new album he hopes to release in autumn.

He’s working with pop producer Max Martin’s team, as well as Cardi B producer Andrew Watt and writers Jamie Hartman and Ali Tamposi.

He explained: “There’ll be less guitars.

I can write slow, ballady songs all day, but I’m trying to keep it up tempo.

“Kiss Like The Sun is light-hearted and I want this record to be more fun. I want something modern and current, but with my DNA and voice in there.”

The Lightning Bolt hitmaker wants to do more collaborations, but he’s not sure if that’ll include his mate Post Malone, real name Austin Post.

Jake revealed: “I’ve known Austin for a few years and we always hang out if we’re in the same place, so who knows if we’ll collaborate?”

A fan of non-league side Notts County, Jake’s love of football has inspired new tune Our Year. “I was telling a couple of Max’s team about how optimistic football fans always are,” laughed Jake. “We go: ‘This is going to be our year,’ and it never really is.

“The Swedish guys found it funny, so it’s turned into this song about a guy telling himself he’s going to calm down on his nights out, but we always end up having a big one.”
