a pariah. But before we get to the Games, Eastwood lets us get to know his unlikely hero.

After we see him manhandling a student, he is sacked as a security guard on a college campus but he manages to land a temporary gig at the Olympics.

When he’s arrested by John Hamm’s FBI agent,

Jewell asks a former boss, maverick lawyer Watson Bryant, for help and the pair form a darkly funny double act.

Bryant is furious with the way the investigation is being handled.

Richard is his own worst enemy. He’s so keen to ingratiate himself with the FBI, he seems determined to fit himself up. Kathy Bates, who plays his mother, gets some devastating moments.

One minute she’s bursting with pride, the next she’s being accused of raising a murderer.

The only misstep is Olivia Wilde’s annoying reporter Kathy Scruggs.

QUEEN & SLIM (15) ★★★ “WELL, if it isn’t the black Bonnie and Clyde”, someone says halfway through this stylish crime thriller. Sadly, this entertaining yarn doesn’t quite live up to that deliciously pulpy tag line.

But Hauser paints Jewell with finer strokes.

This strange man is an honest fantasist who is admirably selfless and head-slappingly stupid.

TOM Hanks has been Oscar-nominated for his convincing performance as US children’s presenter Fred Rogers.

As “Mister Rogers” never made it to Britain, I don’t expect this schmaltzy drama will be so warmly received over here.

Vogel strings his interview out over weeks after the guru-like TV star decides to help him find a way to forgive his terminally ill, estranged father.

If you’re into selfhelp platitudes you might get something out of his lesson about confronting death.

“If it’s mentionable, it’s manageable,” he says slowly.

Catchy but I’m not buying it. The Ikea Bror Shelving Unit with cabinets. There, I’ve mentioned it but I bet I still couldn’t manage to put the bloody thing together.
